Dining Room - Makeover

The pictures say it all!

Before

I didn't like the built-in cabinets in this space, and originally wanted to remove them all, but Buzz & our son, talked me into keeping the bottom ones.   I'm so glad they did.

I also didn't like the decorative window between the living room & dining room, so we closed it in with sheet rock as you'll see below.

I've gone into detail about
how we painted the cabinets and walls in the
Q & A section of my blog.

After

We love this space.
The built-in has been a such a positive...I'm so happy the guys talked me into saving it.

  1. The buffet might come in handy for big family meals, too. There's never enough room on our table at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

The slate top is a very nice touch.

  4. hello! i am drooling here! lol admiring your remodel! we have the SAME house and have already done a few things, but you have me writing a new LONG list of to do's haha! i have one question, i cant tell in the pics what you used for your ceiling trim ( "crown moulding" ) we have that silly fake wood junk now and idk if i should prime it and paint it like u did the kitchen cabinets or if you completely removed it and used a better trim. I can see you put all new baseboards in but i cannot make out the top trim from the pics! I have searched all on your blog and I havent seen this question asked yet, so if you have already answered this i am sorry!! i am sure to be visiting your blog many many times during our remodel, you guys did a fantastic job and thanks SOO much for sharing!! ~LaDonna

    1. Hi LaDonna ... How exciting that we have the same house. I'd love to hear about what you're doing. Re: your question about our ceilings... We didn't add crown molding...I went ahead and added a Q&A to this post http://www.my-hearts-song.com/2012/02/mobile-home-remodeling-details.html showing exactly what we did since you are the second person in the past couple of weeks to have asked about it. Hopefully the Q&A along with the couple of pictures I posted will help you out. I will say, that if we hadn't sprayed the texture on our walls, I probably would have painted the trim as you've thought about doing. I think just being the same color as the walls would help them disappear. Good luck with your remodel, and I hope you'll keep me posted.
      Blessings!

  5. We're buying a home that has the same built-in and as soon as I saw it I had to find this post again! Thanks for the inspiration. Seeing a completed project makes it seem far more doable.
